TEMPTING TECHNIQUES ~ Glitter Window

Everyone likes glitter, right?  This is such a neat technique, and it will add that extra little pizazz to your stamped project. 

Supplies that you will need are:

• Stamp set
• Dazzling Diamonds glitter
• Stampin' Dimensionals
• Clear Packing Tape
• Card Stock

Step 1.  Stamp or decorate "window" mat as desired.

Step 2. Punch shape in mat (make sure width of packing tape will cover window!)

Step 3. Adhere piece of packing tape to the back side of the window (sticky side facing toward the stamped side.

Step 4. Cover sticky side with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

Step 5. Stamp image onto neutral card stock, with bright or dark colored ink.

Step 6. Layer window mat over main image with dimensionals.

How about another color challenge?  These colors are this weeks color challenge at SCS.  So try a project using this technique with these colors...Pixie Pink, Kiwi Kiss (old olive may be substituted) and Tangerine Tango (pumpkin pie may be substituted)

• Sizzlits dies.  These are smaller and more detailed dies which can create scored and perforated details of the die.  These dies are used to cut through think materials, so multiple sheet cutting is NOT recommended when using Sizzlits.

TUTORIAL TUTOR TUESDAY ~ Big Shot

OMG! It is here and I LOVE it!  I am talking about my new Big Shot.  I was not really sure what I thought about the Big Shot and did not know if I really wanted it, but it is SO fun to play with.  I can't wait for my local girl to play with it. 

Just a little sneak peek, we will be playing with it at the November 22nd Holiday Stamp Camp.  Okay, I will stop wasting time, let me introduce you to the Big Shot. 

This is the Big Shot.  I wanted to show you a couple of things that I did, just with playing with it and seeing how it actually worked.  This was SO easy.

Would you like to see how I did this and how easy it is?  Well here we go.......I used the 20 Year Embosslit (sorry that I could not get the picture more clear).

You place you card stock in the embosslit and close it like a book.  You place the embosslit with card stock in between the cutting pads and place it on the multipurpose platform. Cranking the handle away from you moves the platform through the machine. 

   

Next you remove the embosslit from the cutting pads, and your card stock is embossed and easy to just pop out and ready to use.   

Look at what else I did! I followed the same process above, except you place the card stock on top of the Decorative strip cutting pad.

MIX IT UP MONDAY ~ In the Beginning

I was thinking, and thinking, and thinking about what I could post today and was having a hard time coming up with this post, until I placed my water glass down on my coaster.  DUH!  Heeheehee, you will get a kick out of this.  I made this coaster ever before I became a demonstrator.  It has held up pretty good considering that it was never sealed.  I will have to make a new one to show that there has been a little improvement in what I do.  On the back of the tile I put cork board to protect what I placed the coaster on.  Well, here it is...one of my first stamping projects. Don't laugh too hard. LOL

 

I also found a project that I did at the first stamp camp that I attended.  By the way, I had no interest in stamping at this time...I was helping a friend (my former upline) and little did I know that I would be bit by the stamping bug BIG TIME!  This project too was not sealed, but also is holding up. 

Something like this is a nice gift idea for those hard to buy for people.

Instructions

Napkin ring
Make card stock note using Top Note Bigz die. Adhere Designer Series paper on card stock, stamp (on New Year's napkin ring), fold, and smooth folds using bone folder. Stamp label image, punch out and/or cut, and adhere to napkin ring. Punch out slots and tie together with ribbon (Note: New Year's napkin ring is tied together with Silver elastic cord). Accent as shown.

Name plate
Make card stock note using Top Note Bigz die; stamp (on New Year's name plate), fold in half, and smooth fold with bone folder. Adhere Designer Series paper on card stock (Note: layer paper on Old Olive card stock first for Christmas name plate). Accent as shown.

Favor
Make favor box using Pillow Box die, and fill with treats. Create belly band out of Designer Series paper (Note: layer paper for New Year's favor), and adhere to favor. Stamp label image, and punch out. Adhere label and accent as shown.

Confetti
Make several large and small scallop circles out of Designer Series paper. Stamp and cut out/punch smaller images (acorns for Thanksgiving, trees for Christmas, and snowflakes for New Year's) as shown. Glue glitter on snowflakes.

FUN WITH SCRAPPIN' ~ 3~Wheelin'

Okay, so this is my first Fun with Scrappin' post...Woohoo!  I have a BUNCH of pictures from my sister-in-law, which she thinks we wanted to keep for ourselves, BUT shhhhhh, don't tell her, I am making a 12 x 12 scrapbook for her!  I have needed to get started, yeah, I did my first page today.  What do you think?  This is our great nephew Palmer on his little 3-wheeler doing tricks.  Scrapbooks are a great gift idea, especially for those "hard to buy for" people.

TEMPTING TECHNIQUES ~ Polished Stone

I just learned this technique not too long ago...man, it is SO cool.  I hope you enjoy this and try it out for yourself.

 

Supplies that you will need:

Glossy Card Stock

2 or 3 Re-inkers (one may be metallic)

Cotton Balls

Rubbing Alcohol

 

Step 1. Soak a cotton ball with alcohol and dot with 2 or 3 drops of each in color.

Step 2. Repeatedly dab cotton ball over card stock until you achieve the look you want.

Step 3. If using a metallic ink, allow to dry, then spray with acrylic sealer.

Step 4. Use as background, stamp with StazOn or Basic Black ink, or emboss an image.

So, here is a card that was made using the polished stone technique by my dear friend and stamping sister Elizabeth Harris.  Thank you Elizabeth for share your beautiful card!  Here is her recipe.  Supplies are all Stampin' Up!

Tutorial Tutor Tuesday ~ Colored Soot Stamping

I saw this tutorial today and think that it is SO cool!  Enjoy another great tutorial by Beate Johns, and thank you for stopping by the Corner.

Colored Soot Stamping

Take soot stamping up a notch by brayering your cardstock beforehand.

Supplies

• Candle
  
• Glossy Cardstock
  
• Dye Ink
  
• Brayer
  
• Stamps
  
• Acrylic Sealer [ buy it ]

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Ink up your brayer with dye ink and start rolling it over your glossy cardstock.
   

   

2. Step 2

   Continue to do so until your cardstock is evenly colored.
   

   

3. Step 3

   Light your candle. Hold glossy side of cardstock over the candle, so that the flame touches it. Move the cardstock around quickly.
   
   WARNING: Be careful! The edges of the cardstock will catch fire easily.
   
   

   

4. 

5. Step 4

   Take your stamp and press it onto the soot covered cardstock.
   
   NOTE: Don't touch the soot-covered part with your fingers, or you will have fingerprints. The soot comes off easily.
   

   

6. 

7. Step 5

   Spray your image with acrylic sealer to prevent smudging.

   

8. Step 6

   Finish your card.

   

Variations

Go color crazy!
Brayer your cardstock with a spectrum pad for a completely different look.

Mix It Up Monday ~ A Gift From the Heart

I know that today is supposed to be a non-card day, but I wanted to share this special Gift from the Heart from some very special stamping ladies to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee.

On Saturday, October 11th I held an event to go with World Card Making Day (which was actually October 4th), it was a Card Crazy Crafting Camp schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Brew & Bean Coffee Company located at 1730 W. Pensacola Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32304.

I would first like to thank Dave and Donna, owners of Brew & Bean for allowing me to take over about half of the coffee shop for the CCCC.  Dave and Donna have also been very generous to let me take over a little corner of the shop at least once a month to hold other stamping event there.  I also extend my gratitude to Ryan and Joe (Dave and Donna's son and son-in-law) who work there, for putting up with me and my little social stamping group.  I truly thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for the space and for great cups of coffee.

Now on to the craziness.  I wanted to do some kind of a stamping event to honor World Card Making Day, Well, I came up with the idea to do a stamp-a-stack camp.  When I loaded up everything in the car that I wanted to take my stamping room looked a little on the bare side.

Pictured here is the central table/area that had card stock, ink pads, stamp sets, punches, adhesive, ribbon, markers, etc.  

There were individual tables set up to complete several different project. 

I did this a little different from the other SAS that I have held.  I had a sample that they could kind of go by, but they had to come up with some of the own creativity.  For most of my classes and stamping events I have most of the card stock cut, but not for this camp!  The cutters were around and had to be used.  They fussed at me a little (for about 2 seconds...LOL).

There was a $25 fee and no limit to the number of card that could be made.  The only stipulation was that every 5th card would go into the basket for the RMHC.  I guess I named this camp right!  It was a day of card crazy crafting.  Okay, if you read above we were supposed to end at 2:00 p.m...NOT...I think we finally wrapped thing up around 5:00 p.m.

Even though we run late, I am please to say that the RMHC basket received 24 cards.  Would you like to see them all?  Here they are!

   

 

I personally thank the following ladies for taking a Saturday away from their families and other obligations to do something like this.  You ladies are a wonder group of stamper and friends. Thank you...Jackie Cotsonas, Julia Gibson, Lauren Smith, and Terri Stone, for taking time out of your busy lives to spread a little love.  So BIG STAMPING HUGS to all of you!

10/3/08 Frenzied Friday Color Challenge

If I am lucky and my computer does not act up, this might actually get posted! 

Anyway, on Friday October 3rd, I posted a color challenge (you can click on Frenzied Friday in the List on the right to see the original post).  Lauren took the challenge and sent a picture of her card that she created.  I wanted to share with you Lauren's card.  Lauren, you did a great job. I think it is beautiful.  Thank you for sharing it...OKAY, OKAY, OKAY...here it is with her recipe.

" On my card I used the polka dot background and the "Happy" stamp from the Polka Dots & Paisley stamp set.  The colors I used are Bordering Blue, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, and a "vanilla" card stock.  I used the paper crimper to crimp one piece of Chocolate Chip card stock, and three punches:  1/2" circle, 5-Petal Flower, and Boho Blossoms.  I also stuck a copper-colored brad in the middle of the large flower, at the bottom of the card."

WOW, Lauren you really had fun with this card.  Again, thanks for sharing it was us.  I love your layout too.

Tips & Tricks

• Try this to produce a shadowy look.  Stamp an image with VersaMark ink on a light-colored card stock, use a brayer to apply ink over the stamped image.  The first design will resist the second application of ink.  Wow!
• Another wow. Try using VersaMark ink with the Poppin’ Pastels technique. First stamp an image with VersaMark ink and apply Stampin’ Pastels to the stamped image with a stamping sponge or sponge dauber. Blend and mix pastels for beautiful effects.   

How to Use

• If you stamp and image on colored card stock it will appear a few shades darker than the card stock used.  If you stamp on light-colored papers you will achieve the watermark look.  Using VersaMark is a great was to make a beautiful background for a card or other stamped projects.
• Use the brush tip side of the marker to apply ink to a stamp.
• Use the bullet tip side to write directly on card stock.

Tutorial Tutor Tuesday ~ Stipple Basics

I saw this card last week and fell in love with it.  Is it not a beautiful card. This card was created by Beate Johns and this is her tutorial to make this card.  Enjoy.

Stipple Basics

Create soft backgrounds with stipple brushes.

Supplies

• Stipple Brushes
  
• Several shades of dye ink
  
• Cardstock
  
• Stamps

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Stamp your image on cardstock.

   

2. Optional:
   Add depth/shading with markers.

   

3. Step 2

   Hold the brush vertically, then tap stipple brush in the lightest colored ink several times.

   

4. Step 3

   Now tap your stipple brush softly on cardstock. Tap several times.
   
   Repeat step 2 to load up more color.

   

5. Step 4

   Continue to add color to your cardstock.

   

6. Keep adding color until your entire piece of cardstock is covered.

   

7. Step 5

   Take a slightly darker ink, load your stipple brush up again and start adding this color to the cardstock.
   

   

8. Continue to add color until you like the way it looks.
   
   Hint:
   I use a different brush for every color hue (I have one for browns, greens, blues, yellows, reds and oranges).

   

9. Step 6

   Stipple a third color ink to add more depth. With each of the darker colors, I leave a little area around the stamped images that I don't stipple. It will give your images a glowing look.
   
   Hints:
   -When using the darkest color, I tap the inked up brush once on scrap paper.
   -To blend the colors better, you can always go back over the image with one of the lighter colors.
   

   

10. Step 7

    Finish your card.

    

Variations

1. Resist it
   Try stipple resist over an clear embossed image.

   

Mix it up Monday ~ Goodie Box

I know, I am a day behind in posting.  Don't you just love the world of technology.  We are so dependent on computers, that it can stop us in our tracks when they are not working.  Anyway, I made little goodie boxes for everyone that come to Terri's workshop on Saturday to say "thank you".  Speaking of saying "Thank You" a special thank you goes to Lauren for sending me a picture of the goodie box, because I forgot to take a picture.  THANK YOU Lauren!  Big Hugs to you.

I wanted to give a little something and since we are getting close to Halloween, Candy Corn came to mind.  So I made a little box using Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper cut to 6" x 6" and scored at 2" on each side.  I punched a hole in each corner and tied a knot using twine.  Something like this would be a good idea for party favors at many different types of events, such as birthday parties, baby showers, and holiday parties just to name a few.
