Trash to Treasure - Yoplait to Pencil Holder

Here is another Trash to Treasure item. I took an empty and washed Yoplait container to make a pencil holder. I used Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper and the Big Shot. I added the flower and brad for a little bling.  My way of Going Green with Stampin' Up!

Trash to Treasures - Quaker Chewy Dipps Box to Gift Card Box

Have you every really noticed what you put in your trash can or your recycle bin? While doing some cleaning recently I started to notice the items that went in our trash can or recycle bin and it got me thinking. Even though we do recycle, what about recycling in a different way.

So here is my first Trash to Treasure item that I am going to share with you. I took an empty Quaker Chewy Dipps box and created a cute gift card box. I used Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper to cover the box both outside and in. Added a little ribbin for and extra touch.

Stampin' Up! Crew 2 - My Why

I just recently joined Crew 2, a group that Stampin' Up! invites demonstrators to participate to give us guidance and resources that are aimed to help grow our business.  I first had to make the commitment that I wanted to participate,  and with that commitment I agree to complete the different challenges along the way.  One of the challenges was to state "My Why" for joining this group, write it down, and keep it in a place that I would see every day.  So I did "My Why" but also included in my statement why I became a demonstrator.  I bet you are now wondering why I am going on and on about this and asking "Why are you telling us this?"...because I want to show you "My Why". 

    
 
I decided to make "my why" be something that would look pretty.  I used a multiple picture frame for my creation, and it will be hanging over my desk in the stamping room. 

I wanted to share this with you to show you that picture frames are not just for pictures.  So I challenge you to create your own picture frame project, and I would love to feature your creation at the Corner.

 

Valentine's Day Party

First, I say... Happy Valentine's Day!...and I hope you all have a wonderful day.

I have had several people ask me to share the projects that we did at my Valentine's Day Party last month.  So with no more delay, here they are.

 We made a votive candle holder wrap, a little card that is prefect for gift cards, and a standard Valentine's Day card.  This one is for my Valentine and I altered the middle of the card from what we did at the party, which is the picture below.

UDI Diva Inspiration Challenge 131

It is Thursday, so that means it is UDI Diva Inspiration Challenge time again - #131.

 
I love this picture but I was having a tough time trying to decide what I wanted to do.  I did a non-card item today...a votive candle holder wrap.  Once I figured out  what I wanted to do it took no time at all to complete this project.  I just realized, I did no stamping on this at all.

Flower Votive Candle Holder Wrap

Card Stock:  Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, Garden Green, White Vellum card stock

Accessories:  

*Big Shot, Flourish (Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plate), Large Flower and Flower Pieces (Birds & Blooms Sizzlits 4-Pack Dies)

*Daffodil Delight Flower Brads, Stampin' Pastels, VersaMarker, 1/16" Circle Handheld Punch, Mini Glue Dots

 For something a little different I decided to add the flower brads to the seam.  I note to the wise...don't make a last minute decision "after" you have put the wrap together to add color to the vellum...it is MUCH easier to do that when the vellum is flat!

Diva Inspiration Challenge #108

Today is my first post for the UDI Diva Inspiration Challenge. On a weekly basis I will have a picture that I am to be inspired by and create a stamped project.   This week was kind of easy for me in a way.  I had an idea as soon as I saw the picture for this week, which is just to the right.

I wanted to do a little something for "my sister" Lisa that moved to Michigan a year ago and has been on the job hurt since.  She finally was able to land a teaching job (WOOHOO) and her first day will be the end of the month. So this picture inspired my creation this week.  It is still a work in progress because I am not sure how am going to finish it (card, scrapbook page, picture frame), but the stamping part is done, but I better hurry up and finalize it so I can get it in the mail to her before her first day of work. Congratulations Lisa on your new job.

DD Club Meeting

WOOHOO!  I got to spend almost all day in the stamping room today (last time in the stamping room was early July), however part of the time was spent cleaning up and organizing some things.  Anyway, I was getting ready for my DD Club meeting tomorrow.

The first project is a card that I actually created for a friend that had to put her 10 year old dog down this past week.  For those of us that are animal lovers, our pets are part of our family and it if very difficult dealing with the loss.

The other project that we will be working on is a little Sweet One candy box. I am embarrassed to say that this was the first time that I used my Matchbox bigz die, and it was SO MUCH FUN! I LOVE my matchbox bigz die!

Stampin' Up! on the newsstands - Better Homes & Gardens and CardMaker

Just wanted to share some fun information with you today about a couple of magazines that Stampin' Up! is being featured in thier July 2009 issues.

If you receive the Better Homes & Gardens magazine, in the "100 Decorating Ideas under $100" issue you will have to flip to pages 82 and 83 to see some familiar items.  Don't miss the shopping guide on page 94.

Stampin' Up! is also featured in CardMaker.  BBQ Time Invitation and Ice Cream Cone on page 38, as well as, 15 Candles and Filled With Joy on page 62.

SCRAPBOOKING PROJECTS ~ Stampin' Up!

Scrapbook Class Idea

I am excited that May is National Scrapbook month.  I  was talking to one of my demo friends the other night about different scrapbooking classes that we could offer and where to find different page layouts.  All of the sudden I remembered that I made a scrapbook with my upline group right after I became a demonstrator.  This is a great idea for a class.  If you like what you see here, keep watching my blog for further updates regarding classes starting in May.

 

Stamping Basics ~ Stampin' Up! Ink part 6

Did you know that you could do some much with Stampin' Up! ink?  Many of you may be happy that this is the last post about ink, but if you have any other ideas that I have not mentioned in the past 7 weeks e-mail me and I will add your idea to the list of things that you can do with ink.  I hope you have enjoyed learning about ink, but next week we will move on to something new.

QUESTION:  Ink ~ Can pigment ink be used on fabric?

ANSWER:  It can be used on fabric, but the color will not be as vibrant as used on paper, and it will fade slightly after heat-setting.  This is true for Stampin' Up! pads as well as other in the retail market.  A trick that you can try to achive a more vibrant image, stamp it twice. The Stamp-a-ma-jib would be great to use for this to make sure you stamp the second time perfectly over the first image.  

Things you should remember when doing fabric stamping:

• Make sure you prewash the fabric.
• For best results, use a tighly woven and smooth-finished fabrics.
• ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, test a small area of the fabric first.
• Immediately heat-set after stamping.
• You may wash as normal or hand wash, but it would be best to dry by air or line dry.

Re-ink your pad frequently for best results. 

Stamping Basics ~ Stampin' Up! Ink part 5

This is something that I have not personally done yet, but I have seen some really neat stamped walls.  Have you stamped on your wall?  Post a comment below if you have and if you had any problems when you stamped.

QUESTION:  Ink ~ Can pigment ink be used for stamping on walls?

ANSWER:  It is a possibility, however it is best to test on a small area that is not really well seen first and heat-set it.  If the heat-setting dryed it it will work.  It really depends on several factors, the walls texture, the finish, and what has been previously painted on the wall.  Just keep in mind that acrylic paint is best for stamping on walls.

Stamping Basics ~ Stampin' Up! Ink part 4

Did you think that there was this much that someone could talk about Stampin' Up! ink?  If you have stamped on wood, I would love to see and share your work.  E-mail me and let me know.

QUESTION:  Ink ~ Can pigment ink be used on wood?

ANSWER:  Yes, as long as the wood is smooth raw wood or on work painted with water-based paint, BUT it will need to be heat-set.  To protect the finished product even more, after heat-setting, you might want to spray it with a fixative for an extra layer. 

Project Ideas ~ part 2

On Thursday, April 2nd, I shared with you where you could find some neat project ideas on the Stampin' Up! site, but did you know that you could also find some cool projects on my DBWS?  You can located them from two different places.  When you go to my DBWS, click on the second tab at the top of the page "creative projects" or, you can scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "see more projects" but either will take you to the "creative projects" page.

I would like to point out that there is a "NEXT" link on the right side of the page at both the top and the bottom.  Clicking on NEXT will advance you to the next page.  As of this date, there are 26 different projects on my DBWS.  I would also like for you to notice that at the bottom right-hand corner of each project is a "DETAIL" link that you can click on.  This will pull up more detail on each of the projects. 

Let's look at an example such as the Easter Wishes Basket. When you click on "detail" you will have a larger picture of the project and, in this case, the recipe for creating this basket.

Stamping Basics ~ Stampin' Up! Ink part 3

QUESTION:  Ink ~ Does pigment ink work on surfaces like tile, porcelain, and terra cotta?

ANSWER:  Normally, using pigment ink on slick surfaces is not a good idea because it will not dry on its own.  However, you can use clear embossing powder to seal the ink, which will give you a nice glossy finish.  It is recommended that you only use this technique for decorative purposed ONLY, such as hanging tiles on the wall.  The image can still be scratched off easily.

Terra Cotta Pot was made using Bella's Bloom stamp set, Perfect Plum and Palm Plum Craft Ink, and Clear embossing powder.
